O-Line Coach:  Brian Stinespring, Virginia Tech.  He took over as the O-line coach in 1998; right around the same time as Va Tech became a national power.  The gritty Hokies O-line consistently leads one of the best rushing attacks in the nation.  Although few recruits are blue chip high school stars, many have gone on to the NFL.

Receivers Coach:  Billy Gonzalez, Florida.  He’s been with Urban Meyer since 2001 serving as WR coach and recruiting coordinator at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida.  He’s doing something right.

QB Coach/O-Coordinator:  Norm Chow, UCLA.  BYU, NC St, and USC have all flourished in Chow’s west coast offense.  Jim McMahon, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, are a few of his QB’s to go on to the NFL.

Running Back Coach:  Galen Hall, Penn State.  The veteran of the staff coached RB’s at Oklahoma from 66-83, and was head coach at Florida from 84-89.  He coached Emmit Smith in college and in the NFL as an assistant with the cowboys.  Penn State was horrible on offense prior to his arrival in 2004. Since then they have won two Big 10 titles and ranked high in rushing offense each year.

D-Line coach:  Dan McCarney, Florida.  He coached dominant D-Line’s at Iowa in the 80’s and Wisconsin in the 90’s before becoming the head coach at Iowa State.  He went to South Florida and they quickly became a dominant pass rushing team.  Urban Meyer picked him up prior to last season and Florida went from 46^th to 4^th in the nation in scoring defense.

Linebacker Coach/Defensive Coordinator:  Will Muschamp, Texas.  He has led dominant defenses at Georgia, Auburn, and Texas.  One of the top young coaches in the game.

DB Coach:  Willie Martinez, Georgia.  He came to Georgia with Mark Richt in 2001.  His defenses have consistently been among the tops in the nation in passing defense and scoring defense.  Nine Bulldog DB’s have been drafted in the past five seasons..

Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive tackles: Ed Ogeron, Tennessee.  He gets the top players to commit each year.  Ole Miss is stocked with talent because of Ogeron’s recruits.  As USC’s D-line coach, he molded several All-Americans and high NFL draft picks.

Head Coach:  Pete Carroll, USC.  Seven consecutive BCS Bowl games, PAC-10 titles, and AP top 4 finishes!

1999: LB Chris Claiborne was picked 9^th overall. He started for four seasons and was decent for the Lions. They should have picked Al Wilson. He went 31^st to Denver and made 5 pro bowls.

2000: OT Stockard McDougal was picked 20^th overall. He started at RT for 3 average seasons. They should have picked Chad Clifton who went in the second round to Green Bay. He has been a mainstay on the Packer line for nine seasons earning one pro bowl.

2001: OT Jeff Backus was the 18^th pick. The Michigan Alum made a home at LT for the Lions where he has started every game for eight seasons. The Lions made the right pick here!

2002: QB Joey Harrington was the 3^rd overall pick for Detroit. He started for four seasons winning only 18 games. There was not a franchise QB in the 2002 draft, so Detroit should have traded down for more picks and signed veteran free agent Gus Frerotte. They could then get QB Josh McNown in the third round.

2003: They picked Charles Rodgers with the second overall pick. He was a colossal bust playing only 13 NFL games. They should have picked Andre Johnson who went #3 overall. He has 486 Rec. in six seasons with two pro bowls.

2004: #7 overall pick WR Roy Williams gave Detroit four solid seasons as a top WR target and earned one Pro Bowl. This was the right pick.

#30 Pick RB Kevin Jones gave Detroit 4 decent seasons as a starter. Right pick again.

2005: #10 pick WR Mike Williams was a huge bust starting only six games for the Lions. There is no reason to pick a WR for the third straight year. They get their QB with Aaron Rodgers who went #24 to Green Bay.

2006: #9 pick LB Ernie Sims has started every game for the Lions for three seasons. Right pick again for Detroit.

2007: WR Calvin Johnson was the second overall pick. He has been great for his first two seasons, but another WR? With RB Kevin Jones performance in question, the Lions should have released him and drafted Adrian Peterson who went #7 to the Vikings.

2008: The Lions go with OT Gosder Cherilus with the 17^th pick. Assuming they let one of their OT’s go in free agency, this is a solid pick. They could have resigned their two veteran OT’s and drafted CB Aquib Talib who went 20^th to Tampa Bay

2009: The Lions picked QB Matthew Stafford #1. With QB Aaron Rodgers playing well, the Lions could have gone with a great defensive playmaker like LB Aaron Curry.
